A variation of the invitation sent to all the Bishops and Diocese of Australia:

As you are well aware, the attention of Catholic people all over the world was directed last year to the Eucharist, Summit and Source of life. An initial discussion document – the Lineamenta – was issued; a year of the Eucharist was proclaimed; a Synod of Bishops from every nation will meet in October this year to further consider this most important subject.

The National Council of Priests of Australia has, quite understandably, devoted a lot of energy into the examination of the Eucharist, a truth and an experience so central to our lives. We have prepared various comments on the Lineamenta, sought and received submissions from priests across Australia and received some interesting and encouraging responses from overseas.

The N.C.P. Executive offers you this Discussion Paper , inviting you to make use of these notes and the discussion starter over the next few months.

We would appreciate any feedback and comments about Eucharist in Australia . Please convey your thoughts to any member of the N.C.P. Executive – preferably by email to the NCP National Office, national.office@ncp.catholic.org.au before the end of August.

We plan to offer these responses to Archbishop Adrian Doyle and Bishop Chris Toohey who will be taking part in the Synod meetings.

Our hope and I'm sure your hope also, is that prayerful discussions will deepen our understanding, appreciation and love for the gift of Eucharist.

Sincerely  - Hal Ranger, NCP Chairman
